Why a neurosurgeon?
Neurosurgeons
provide
the highest level of expertise in treating spine disorders.
They
train extensively in brain, spinal cord and nerve pathology so they are
equipped to deal with pain, weakness, and numbness at all levels of the
nervous system. Neurosurgeons complete more spinal surgery training
than any other specialty. They are the only physicians who
treat
the entire spine from the brain and cranial-cervical junction to the
sacrum. Neurosurgeons also perform peripheral nerve surgery
and
can treat any disorder of the spine or nerves.
Only
neurosurgeons are
qualified to treat spinal cord tumors, nerve tumors, arachnoid cysts,
syringomyelia, Chiari malformation, arteriovenous malformations,
tethered spinal cords, spina bifida, and other neural tube
defects.
